Let's Organize the Medicine Cabinets!
You should be going through your medicine cabinet at least once every six months to purge anything expired and stock up on any essentials you need. Keep all your medicines in one spot instead of multiple bathroom cabinets, in the kitchen and under sinks, in night stand drawers, kitchen junk drawers, on counter tops. ONE SPOT for all the meds instead. Keep things high in a cabinet that you can child-proof if you have kids or pets. In this cabinet you can keep other things like a first aid kit, sun block, bug spray, lotion, extra tissues, etc. That way you know where everything is--just in one spot. It's also easy to access in case of emergencies. Purge any meds that are expired and that you no longer need.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day!
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled the fifth National Presciption Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 27th, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal.
Have Light Bulbs, Batteries, Oil, Gas, Pesticides, Cleaners and other Chemicals or hazardous waste you're ready to finally get rid of? Drop off at your local Hazardous Waste Facility (and often police stations will also accept these items, so call your local station to see if you can drop-off along with your presciption meds!)

Overwhelmed and Don't Know Where to Start?
My motivation trick and advice to clients who are having a rough start at things is to set a timer for 30 minutes and dive in. Let's use organizing a bedroom as an example: I start with making the bed. Then I pick up everything off the floor and put it all on the bed to process. I have a few garbage bags open beside me--Donate, Trash, Recycle. I put "Keeps" in the room/area they belong in--books in the bookshelf, kids' toys in their room, bathroom stuff in the bathroom, etc. I put dirty clothes in a designated Dirty Clothes area, and hang up/fold and put away any clean ones. Just doing that makes the room feel totally transformed! Still have time left? Dig into the nightstand drawer--keep using your Donate, Trash, Recycle bags and put things in the room/area they properly belong in if you're keeping them. When the timer dings, you're done! Pat yourself on the back. :-)
Repeat as often as you like, but do it at least once--few times a week to tackle overwhelming projects, tasks or areas. At the start or end of each day, spend 10-15 minutes picking everything up and putting it in its proper place on the areas you've already gotten semi-controlled. Doing routine maintenance makes sure things don't pile up on you again. It's like laundry and dishes--just something you have to routinely do.
